Augusto Boal is an innovative and influential theatrical director, writer, politician, and is the founder of Theatre of the Oppressed. Boal was elected as a Vereador (Brazilian equivalent of local council seat in UK politics) in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 but he was not re-elected in 1996. Boal was recently nominated for the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize.
Sadly, Boal passed away on 2nd May 2009, aged 78 years old.
